An evolving documentary record of suppliers, fulfillment, shipping carriers, packaging, and cultivation outcomes.
| NURSERY / GROWER | CARRIER | EVALUATION | DOCUMENTED OBSERVATIONS | ORCHID / ORDER RECORD | FOLLOW-UP |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Helen's Orchid House | UPS | Excellent Delivery | Seller offers FedEx or UPS. We selected UPS and she complied | Vanda (Neofinetia) Falcata | Nursery quality and great carrier performance |
| Orchids by Hausermann | FedEx | Carrier-related damage reported | A shipment reportedly spent seven days in transit. Oncidium Twinkle ‘Pink Fantasy’ subsequently declined; the owner attributes damage to the delivery experience. | HDS-016 — Twinkle ‘Pink Fantasy’ | Shipping/transit concern; nursery quality and carrier performance are distinct. |
| Krull-Smith Orchids | UPS (earlier record; verify) | Serious potting concern | Cymbidium Iris Bannochie ‘Wakanda’ arrived with compact sphagnum secured by black thread. After repotting on July 16, significant moss remained inaccessible within the root system. Post-mortem examination October 8 documented retained sphagnum; cause of death undetermined. Similar tightly bound sphagnum was reported for Chocolate Drop. | HDS-013 — Wakanda; HDS-014 — Chocolate Drop | Re-evaluate potting practice separately from appearance upon arrival. |
| New World Orchids | Not established | Prolonged fulfillment delay reported | An order reportedly remained unfulfilled for months and continued to display “New Order” / preparing for shipping. The exact order and shipping dates need to be transcribed from the printed record. | Order documentation to add | Fulfillment issue; no transit-performance judgment without a dispatch date. |
| Bredren Orchids | USPS (earlier record; verify) | Under review | Three Brassavola Little Star orchids received August 5, 2026. No adverse vendor conclusion established by the information currently available. | HDS-018, HDS-019, HDS-020 | Continue monitoring acclimation and plant condition. |
| Ecuagenera USA | USPS Priority Mail (recalled; not confirmed) | Satisfactory — consider again, with reservations | Encyclia cyperifolia arrived bare-root and in acceptable condition. Delivery was exceptionally delayed, reportedly because of international inspection and border procedures; the allocation of this delay between fulfillment and transit has not been established. As of October 8, 2026, the orchid is doing reasonably well, although the pseudobulbs are somewhat shriveled. Continued acclimation remains under observation. | HDS-021 — Encyclia cyperifolia | Potential future source; allow for uncertain international delivery times and monitor the orchid’s recovery. |
| Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden | Private carrier / delivery service | Favorable — recommended based on this delivery | Vanilla planifolia was delivered by a private carrier. No delivery damage was reported. As of October 8, 2026, the plant remains in satisfactory condition. | HDS-022 — Vanilla planifolia | Positive delivery and plant-condition record; continue observing long-term establishment. |
| OrchidWeb | Various (earlier review; verify per order) | Previously favorable | An earlier review reportedly assessed the nursery favorably; underlying order-level data have not yet been transcribed. | To add | Retain prior impression as historical, not a new confirmed rating. |
| Quest Orchids | Not established | Mixed; details to verify | Earlier concerns were reported about communication and plant identification. Specific orders and supporting details remain to be entered from the printed review. | To add | Document dates and exact identification issues before assigning a final evaluation. |
Record three independent dates for each purchase: order placed, handed to carrier, and delivered. This separates nursery fulfillment time from shipping transit time.
Evaluate communication and accuracy, dispatch and transit, packing and initial plant condition, hidden root-zone or potting problems, and long-term acclimation separately. A plant's decline does not, by itself, establish vendor fault or prove a single cause.
Record confidence: Documented (dated page, photograph, receipt, tracking, or direct observation); Reported (owner's recollection or earlier review); Pending (evidence or date not yet transcribed).
